Fuelling long rides without stomach trouble
Eat early, eat often and train your gut like you train your legs.
Start eating within the first 45 minutes, before you feel hungry. Aim for small amounts every 20 to 30 minutes.
Mix real food and sports products. Rice cakes, bananas and simple sandwiches work well on easier stretches; gels are easier on hard climbs.
Drink to thirst and add electrolytes on hot days. Test new products on training rides, never on event day.
